8bit Hero! OST - Link Dump
Posted by Kerri on October 31st, 2006
I’ve wrote about chip/8bit music before on here and so thought i’d follow it up with links to my favourite freely available chip music Cd’s released (moderately) recently.
As I mentioned before a big player in the chip music scene is net label 8bitpeoples who have been running for quite a while now (since 1999 sic). There are quite a lot of 8bit labels out there but in my opinion this is the biggest and most productive release wise.
The releases I wanted to bring to attention have been on my mp3 player ever since they came out and are true masterpieces in my opinion, truly showcasing what is so great at the chip music movement.
Hit the jump for the goods
The first is titled ‘Power Supply‘ and is by Anamanaguchi. The three piece act from New York have been on the scene for awhile now but only released there first CD a few months ago on 8bitpeoples.
Second is another favourite of mine ‘Sounds of the 2a03‘ by Rushjet1 and as far as I can tell this was made wholely using the NES sound chip, coincidentally named the ‘2a03′ to create a widely genre’d record featuring chip tunes in many different styles very reminiscent of old video game music rather than modern productions.
Third but not least is, in my opinion, England’s leading bitpop artist David E. Sugar. His release ‘Fresh off the Chip‘ is a treat combining the modern British indie sound with the sound of game-boys gone wrong.
Be sure to check back soon when i’ll hook you up with even more 8bit aural sex.
