PSP now plays PS1 games (Through a PS3…)

According to Eurogamer, the PSP is now able to play retro Playstation games downloaded via the PS3. Funnily enough, even though the PLAYSTATION3 can read PS1 games you still have to purchase them again just to play them on the portable. Seems a bit odd to me.
Anyway, the games available at launch for the ’sinkin’-in-sales’ portable are Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Konami’s Antiques MSX Collection, Bishi Bashi Special, Arc the Lad, Jumping Flash, Hot Shots Golf 2, Silent Bomber and Tekken 2.
I was kinda hoping that they’d have more of the legends for release like Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy 8, Chrono Trigger or Parappa in there but I suppose even Nintendo’s Virtual Console is staggering its re-releases for the future.
Still, don’t you find it odd after Kaz Hirai’s fan-tastic press conference, that Ridge Racer isn’t even available for the emulator
