Broken Wii Strap Mass-Media reportage
Posted by Kerri on December 16th, 2006
I’ve no idea what happened yesterday… The news that Nintendo we’re replacing broken wii remote straps blown up into a ‘3.2million worldwide product recall!’ and was splashed across tabloids everywhere. I couldn’t believe the announcement to replace the remote straps had more exposure than the actual release of the console itself. Thankfully, GAME’s website have decided to set the record straight and tell us Nintendo are NOT replacing every wii remote strap.
Nintendo is not recalling any of the Wii wrist straps for its motion sensitive Wii Remote. There is no problem with the existing wrist strap as long as the Wii Remote is used sensibly and properly in accordance with the guidelines provided by Nintendo. All parts of the wrist strap have passed product testing and quality control.
Customers who break their wrist straps or who are worried about their wrist strap should contact their nearest Nintendo Service Centre voluntary exchange programme has been provided where consumers can replace wrist straps free of charge upon request.
I checked out the difference between my two wii remotes yesterday and yes, the one that came in the console box had the original strap and the one in Wii Play had the new, thicker one. I still don’t believe more than 1 out of 1000 people are actually managing to brake these things. But for those of you out there who insist on putting your heart and soul into Wii Tennis, you can rest easy now (just so long as you don’t put a hole in that tv of yours ay?)

*shakes head slowly* It’s hyped up media coverage like that that made me start my blog in the first place.
Not that I don’t do it myself now (especially when the Apple iMind kicks in).
