Wii nerdiness

Now, I must admit. I’ve been a bit lazy with posting recently. This is probably due to a many things but primarily, I now have a Wii. In my opinion, it is perhaps the best console ever, both Zelda and Red Steel are pretty draining on my free time at the moment. However, one thing i’ve been interested in is the home made aspects of the Wii which are already starting to come through in some pretty interesting ways.
Before I actually got the Wii I was playing Final Fantasy VIII on the PC (for the fifth time I think? I lost count) through the use of a Wii remote and Nunchuck connected through a Bluetooth connection and a program called GlovePie. The program is really simple and its real easy and kinda fun to write your own little scripts with the aid of the WiiLi wiki entry. Despite my ramblings before about the crappy PC conversion of the game its actually pretty fun playing it with this new, more modern control scheme. I’m looking forward to playing more PC games in future using the Wii remote as it adds a new dimension to the game, one which can actually make it more fun. This is probably the precise thinking behind the remote in the first place.
Another thing i’ve been playing around with is the ‘Wii Media Center X‘ software by Red Kawa recently posted about by blogmates WiiDS.co.uk. The program works by setting up a host on your computer which is given an address in your LAN which can be accessed pretty easily via the Wii’s Internet Channel. The program is designed to resemble the same sort of interface as a Windows Media Center computer by allowing you to access all your media through a television streamed from a Windows machine. Sadly, the program dosn’t yet work with music files but can view JPG images very well and plays movies converted using the Wii movie converter (also by Red Kawa). This is definitely something to watch out for as it grows in features and nerd support.
PS: Seriously, wheres all my Wii mail from you guys?

Hey Kerri, well Ive just got my wii home back from the festive period only to find out there is a problem with the wireless router. Im just trying to figure out the password/passkey for the wifi and normal message posting will resume.
(Just incase all goes wrong my back up plan b of buying a nintendo wifi router to plug in to my laptop is being looked in to too)
The missus parents bought me Red Steel, I’ve hardly got off it since playing it.
If they made the walking pace a bit faster and made that “invisible pointing circle” thing smaller so I didnt have to point to the edge of my screen to move, then Red Steel could of been much much better.
I think Red Steel 2 (specualtion but fingers crossed) will be on my list of must buys. Ubi Soft could be in for a nice little cash cow here.
