Sonic Secret Rings playtest

Those lucky sods from Sonicstadium.org managed to get to spend some time with the near final build of the highly anticipated Sonic Wii game ‘Sonic and the Secret Rings’. Regarding the controls it seems to be a pretty straight forward game which is almost completely on the rails.
The blue blur is constantly going; you simply tilt the Wii remote left or right to move the hedgehog the corresponding direction. Pressing ‘2′ will make him jump, while holding the button down can make you leap higher. Enemies can be attacked by flicking the remote forward when a red target surrounds them. Button ‘1′ halts Sonic and can be used to cancel a charging jump, while holding the remote backwards can make Sonic do a moonwalk to pick up medals and items you just missed.
I know a lot of people slate the recent Sonic games, but I really enjoyed Adventure 2. It had a great cheese-tastic soundtrack and had some pretty fun levels that were fast and reminiscent of the 2d classics.
A lot of people compare Mario and Sonic because of their initial rivalry. The way I see it, I’m kinda glad Sonic hasn’t whored himself out for countless sports spin-offs. Sega know that Sonic belongs in platforming and hopefully he will stay that way. I’m really hoping Sega are able to pull off the ‘racing’ like nature of this title in an interesting way.
