Fable 2 Dogging

Kotaku recently posted a link to videos from the new entry in the Fable series.
Part 2 of the story supposedly takes plac
e hundreds of years after the first game and has many changes to the games engine and what it can and cannot do. One of the first major changes in the game was recently revealed at GDC was that the game would rid of the mini-map and instead allow you to use a dog for navigation around the game’s world. The videos linked here display the features of the dog. From the videos we can tell that the dog will attack enemies that are a threat to you as well as lead you to treasure you may have missed. Molyneux (the leader of Lionhead Studios) suggests that the dog may also be able to chase you down even if you run away from the dog.
I assume that the creators are trying to make a more involving part of their game which really interests the player and draws them further into the games world.

I have been following Fable news pretty closely since one of my usually non-gaming friend has such interest in it. When I first heard about the dog thing it sounded like it wasn’t as amazing as Peter Molyneux kept trying to tell us it was. Now that the videos are up it seems much more in depth and engaging than reports initially made me feel!

Yes, I certainly felt it was a little bit odd. When developers say they have something big - you pretty much always have to expect something completely odd and out there!
It seems like a pretty good idea now i’ve seen the videos. If anything it adds a deeper level of realism, we don’t always have maps with us telling us exactly where to go in real life.
