Super Paper Mario Impressions

Okay, so I stole this from 4cr’s ‘News Get’ thing but what the hey.![]()
I’m super psyched for this game (and any other Paper Mario game for that matter), so it brings me much joy to hear that this entry in the series is also pretty good.
Not much of what was said in the article was new to me. I had however not noticed the in depth nature of the so called ‘pixls’ before.
These characters are accompanied by small floating companies called Pixls, each of which has a unique ability. The butterfly-like Tippy allows the Wii remote to be pointed at the screen like a flashlight, granting knowledge about enemies, items, and hidden locations. Thoreau lets the player grab and throw enemies and items. Slim has the character–but not the world–rotate 90 degrees to become paper thin, useful for solving various puzzles involving very tight areas. Boomer turns into a destructive bomb that explodes with a gorgeous effect blending smooth gradients with rough pixelation.
Sounds pretty interesting. From what I can tell though, I can’t help feeling like this has been a bit of a rush job to put the whole thing on the Wii with added functionality.
When are we going to start seeing more of those ‘real’ Wii games? You know, the ones that aren’t ports? Roll on this years bogged-down E3 I say.

Since it is being moved from the GCN to the Wii, there will always be that feeling of maybe the controls were tacked on, and how they might have been with a gamecube controller. I love the Paper Mario games though, and I am also very excited about this game. I think Intelligent Systems can create a well designed Wii control scheme for the game, For me, SPM will be the first must-own game for my Wii since Zelda. I am totally with you on wondering when the real Wii games will come down the line.

Certainly, I’m highly excited about this game. It should be a ‘must-have’ game for Wii owners everywhere.
