Rock Band Coming - Lock up your Daughters

Posted by Kerri on April 2nd, 2007

jack-black-school-of-rock.jpgIt doesn’t matter so much that Konami were doing this sort of thing years ago - EA, MTV and Harmonix are working together on perhaps the most financially backed video game ever. ‘Rock Band’ is a game where you work together with three other people to form a band, either locally or via the internet. When you’ve set up your band you can jam together with a multitude of music from many different genres. The game is being developed by Harmonix, creators of the massively popular Guitar Hero series and the Karaoke Revolution games. Alex Rigopulos (co-founder of Harmonix) points out that Rock Band “takes the core premise of Guitar Hero and expands it tenfold”. By building on the bricks they have laid in previous years, they are culminating their experience and creating the most ambitious music software to date. The game is said to include parts for two lead guitarists, a drummer and a vocalist (although surprisingly enough, there is no mention of how much it will cost for the hardware for these parts).
Let’s see how this works out shall we. It’d be interesting to see a game MTV worked on, especially after the awfulness that was the ‘Celebrity Deathmatch’ game.

I love Harmonix games, all the way back to when they released FreQuency and Amplitude, As long as MTV and EA just provide the financial backing and don’t go sticking their noses in Hamonix’ design process I believe this game will be great just like all Harmonix games prior to it.
