If you’ve never played the original then, shame on you! Typing of the Dead was a PC and Dreamcast clone of ‘House of the Dead 2′ but with a change to just one thing in the main gameplay mechanic - you type with your keyboard to destroy undead hordes instead of shoot them with a gun. The characters in the game carried large keyboards of doom with them instead of the 9’s from the original version.

The first game was released in 2000 and it was a huge surprise for me to pop onto Kotaku today to see a video for the sequel to the ‘learn-to-type-fast-or-get-eaten’ based original. By the looks of the video it seems that the second entry in the series will work a lot quicker than the first game. I assume that the version I played was localized and made easier however as most of the words were less than five letters and in English. In this video though we clearly see many large Japanese phrases being thrown at the typist in order to obliterate the undead threat.

The game will be released in Japan sometime in 2007 for the PC and Mac. Hopefully with a European port at some point for my slow typing ability (in comparison to the Japanese version).
