PS3 Now Plays Retro Titles… More Retro Titles

crashnitroartwork1.jpgFunctions like this aren’t exactly the most inventive. Sure, Sony’s rivals all engage in the same processes too but at least Sony are able to 1up the others by allowing their retro titles playability on their portable console of choice - the PSP.

Originally you could purchase retro PS1 titles through the online store of the PS3 and download the titles onto your PSP for hand held, on the move consumption. Games like Crash Bandicoot, Wipeout and Tekken 2 clearly being games that people would wish to replay again after such a long time. It seemed odd to many that the PS3 could play old Playstation games with the use of the original game discs but could not play those which were downloaded from the internet (most probably a DRM issue).

Sony have released a firmware upgrade for the PS3 which now enables you to play these downloaded classics on your £425 console as well as your PSP.

My only wish is that the titles were able to be downloaded straight from the PSP without having to own a PS3 to act as a sort of ‘middle man’. I think that if you were able to just use the PSP autonomously, I would be more interested in the service. £500 is a lot to pay for a middle man.
