Singstar PS3 = Myspace, iTunes & Singstar PS2

Eurogamer have a great preview up regarding the new iteration of Singstar for the PS3. Although many people still haven’t invested in the console itself I can see many younger gamers feeling the need to after they see what this new version has to offer.
Singstar is a game which incorporates the foundations of karaoke but adds a video game twist to it. The game comes with two microphones which plug into the console and allow you to sing your little heart out to a wide variety of songs included on the disc. By putting karaoke into a video game it also includes a system whereby you are scored and rated depending on how well you do; rather than just allowing you to sing along you also get judged on your performance as well. Singstar for the PS2 is one of the most successful titles for the console to date spawning a myriad of expansion discs including 210 extra songs to sing along to over seven different titles.
The new iteration for PS3 is being described as a mix between a social networking site, a music downloading service and the original game which is exactly the same as the original titles for the PS2. As well as the thirty songs included on the disc itself the game boasts an expansive online selection of tunes available to download from launch day. With the online capabilities of the PS3 the game will allow you to download new songs to play as well as upload information about yourself to create a gamer tag of sorts. You can upload your best scores as well as your favourite songs and artists.
Singstar for the PS3 seems to be a potentially huge game for Sony. With kids all over the country buying this stuff left and right (or in fact, moaning at mum and dad to buy it for them). The new version could actually sell a few of the consoles, something which I’m sure Sony would love to see.
