Tomb Raider Anniversary for Xbox 360 - Episodic content?
Posted by Kerri on June 7th, 2007
With the complete absence of an Xbox version of the latest Tomb Raider game, many fans were worried Eidos had forgotten about the big old red-ringed wonder.
It was obvious of course they did have something up their sleeve and some eagle eyed gamers have spotted the answer.
Heading over to the ESRB website we can search for games coming out for consoles and
what ratings they have been given (a lot of games have been unveiled due to this website). If we search for Tomb Raider Anniversary on the Xbox 360 it comes up with five different titles, all of which have been rated ‘T’ for Teen (see the added screenshot).
So why five different titles? Many would believe that due to the ’sectioned’ nature of the game it is possible that Tomb Raider Anniversary on the 360 could be released as downloadable, episodic content over the Live system. It is possible that Eidos are planning on using this new way of content delivery to get the game into peoples hands cheaper than the traditional way.
I myself would say that the previous Tomb Raider game for the 360 ‘Legend’ has had a very high return rate in our shop and shows that perhaps Eidos are interested in taking this turn because of that. They have shown that they aren’t afraid of online content providers with the new title being available for instant download through Steam or Direct2Drive as well as there being a retail version available.
Sadly, Eidos were unable to email me back in regards to their plans. But it is definite that versions for the Wii and the 360 will be released sometime in the near future.
