PS3 80GB version & 100$ price drop Announced
Posted by Kerri on July 9th, 2007
They came, they saw, they didn’t sell as well as expected first time around.
But that’s okay because Sony have a lot of good things up their sleeves with the PS3. With ambitious projects like LittleBigPlanet and the ‘Home’ service as well as killer-app Singstar on the horizon, it’s only a matter of time before the Sony PS3 starts to draw some attention to itself after the recent onslaught from the Nintendo Wii.Today it was announced by David Karraker of Sony America that the 80Gb version of the console will be hitting store shelves bundled with a free copy of Motorstorm (Pictured) for $599/around £300 in North America.
Not only that but the traditional 60Gb package will be lowered in price to the more reasonable $499 (around £250, still a lot less than it retails for here in the UK).
Although the news of a massive price drop is fine and dandy for our American friends, how will this affect the consoles price here in Europe? Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have not yet responded to our queries but as soon as they do - we’ll update you on the official word.

Lets see if a price cut is announced anywhere else.
It is a shame that Sony have to say there killer app is a kareoke game.
I suppose this is what happens when one of their managers turns around and says “we don’t need exlculsivity.”

I might purchase one of these once Media Molecule’s game comes out. For the time being, I seem to be getting enough out of my modestly priced DS.
